How To Save Money

Sometimes we have to save our money to make our financial goals happen. It can be: buying a house or going on a vacation, or you need to pay off debt as soon as possible.

You’ve already probably stopped drinking coffee from Starbucks every day or shopping as much. Maybe you stopped hanging out with your friends on Friday nights to cut your expenses.

Now you’re wondering what you can do to save even more money.

I won’t tell you to use tea bags multiple times or any other nonsense.

I’m going to tell legitimate ways on how to save money without being frustrated every day.

First of all, don’t worry if something goes not how you have planned. Cutting some expenses, and saving money for something is normal, that’s how life works.

But there is always a way out!

1. Bring Your Lunch Box

If you eat every day at restaurants, then you’re probably spending about $10 for lunch five times a week.

You spend $2600 a year just on lunches! That’s a lot of money!

Try bringing your own lunch box to your work. It may take a bit of your time at home to prepare your meals, but you’ll save about $1500 a year.

You can find very delicious recipes on the internet.

I recommend to prep your meals for a week on weekends when you have more time, so you won’t have to sit in a kitchen every day after work.

2. Shopping

How often do you go shopping for one thing, and end up spending too much money on the clothes you probably will only wear a few times?

Impulsive decisions are dangerous. You have to discipline yourself and ask do you really need it? Clothes that you won’t wear, a new iPhone when you have just a year older and it works fine, or a keyboard for your gaming PC just because it is colorful?

What you can do is to use a “time rule”. I mean, if you’ve seen what you like and you want to buy it, don’t just rush through and do it. Go back home, take your time, at least 2 weeks, and think about that item you wanted to buy, if you still want or need to buy it, then go and buy it.

Just don’t rush with your decisions. In 2 weeks you’ll probably even forget about that dress or an accessory you liked so much.

You’ll be able to save a HUGE amount of money with this “time rule”.

And my advice to you, if you need something to buy, for example, a purse or any other type of clothes or accessories, maybe check for any cheaper stores. Don’t always go to top brands and designer stores.

Also, there is a lot of websites where you can buy used clothes & accessories. It can be a lot cheaper than you’ll find in stores and maybe you’ll find it still in good quality.

3. E-commerce

How often do you buy from Amazon and eBay?

I think we can all agree it’s cheaper than buying the same stuff from our local stores right?

What if there is a way to buy the same stuff for even less money?

There is a lot of different e-commerce websites but everyone is using Amazon and eBay because of their fast shipping, but you pay more you know…

You can use platforms like Aliexpress where all products are a lot cheaper than on Amazon or eBay, the difference is that it will take about 1-2 months of shipping.

You’ll spend less money but it will take more time.

So, if you are ordering something not that important that you have to get in a few days, buy from cheaper websites.

You’ll save a few dollars from every product you buy, and if you order often, you’ll save a couple of hundreds.

• Coupons

Use coupons like Honey. You can download this extension for free with just one click, and when you’ll order something on the internet you’ll be able to save a few dollars.

I use it all the time, and I’ve already saved a few hundreds only with this extension.

4. Food

There are a few tips I will tell you how to save money with food.

  • Eat Breakfast

Eating breakfast in the morning is very important if you want to have more energy that will last longer. Breakfast isn’t hard to make and it can be a fast one too. For example, eat a bowl of cereal or oatmeal, scrambled eggs, drink coffee, or tea. It’s cheap and fast, and it boosts your energy and you won’t want to eat in a few hours in restaurants.

  • Grocery Shopping

Never go shopping on an empty stomach. Only then you won’t buy the things you don’t actually need. Because when you are hungry and go shopping you probably will buy unnecessary food that you don’t need but looks tasty.

Use a smaller shopping cart. You’ll have less room to put your groceries, so you won’t buy what you don’t need.

  • Have a Meal Plan

Think of a meal plan like a week plan, instead of what are you going to do, think of what meal you will prepare for each day. This tip will save you a lot of money because when you know what you will be cooking every day, you won’t buy food that will go to waste.

And when you have a meal plan you will be able to save your time and go grocery shopping only once a week. Do this on weekends, and you’ll save money and time.

  • Vegetables

In your childhood, parents probably told you to eat a lot of vegetables so you could grow big and strong, right?

I recommend eating more vegetables, it will benefit your health, but vegetables are cheaper than meat.

Buy less meat and more vegetables.

  • Water

We need to drink water every day. Don’t buy a water bottle and spend approximately 50$ a month when you can invest your money and buy a water filtering system for about $300, and you’ll be able to drink water right from your home + you’ll be saving an environment.

5. Movies

How often do you watch movies on Netflix or on any other platform?

Maybe think about unsubscribing for the time being, and think about what you can do with that time.

For example, how many books do you have in your bookshelf? Invest your time in reading, it will benefit you with knowledge, and you won’t waste money on movies.

Instead of watching movies, go for a walk in a park with your friends or family.

6. Fitness

Do you have a paid membership to your local gym? Maybe think of taking a break from it.

No, no, no – I’m not telling you to stop working out. Oh no.

Use your creativity and think about how you can work out without a gym.

For example, go for a run around your neighborhood or in a park. There is probably an open stadium beside your local school where you could work out.

Invest money and buy weights so you won’t be needing to go to the gym.

7. Home

There plenty of ways you can save money in your home.

  • Invest money in LED lights, so you won’t need to pay for the energy as much.
  • If you’re planning on renovating your place, maybe think about how can you save money, but at the same time, do a huge makeover to your home?

Brighten your walls with a fresh coat of paint. It’s cheap and you can do it yourself.

  • Taking a smaller apartment will save you a huge amount of money.
  • Fix everything you can yourself. Become your own Mechanic. If you have to solve a problem, don’t go reaching out for your phone, go watch how to fix yourself on Youtube, you’ll be saving a lot of money.

8. Transport

How do you drive yourself to work? Do you use a car or an uber?

If you want to save money, you have to get out a little bit of your comfort zone. There are plenty of public transports that will cost you much less money than driving every day yourself to work in your own car or ordering a taxi.

Drive to work on a bus or any other transport you have in your city.

Sometimes we have to sacrifice something to save money in order to buy something we always dreamed of, would it be a house, a vacation or maybe it’s just a difficult time.

And specifically, we have to be smart about it and strong when times are harder, but it’s just for the moment.

Use your creativity, and try to make saving money – fun. Use it to your benefit and prove to yourself that you can live without the things you have now, but are taking a lot of your money you can’t give.
